FAQs

Can you guide me through making my college application list?

Yes. This is a key part of the advising process, and through meetings and discussion, I provide students with all of the tools they need to decide which colleges they ultimately apply to.

How do you help with the essay writing process?

Through detailed discussions, including a written essay guide, I help from the brainstorming stage all the way to final drafts. I review every single essay for content, grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and organization so that final drafts are perfect.

Will you help write my essay if I get stuck?

I will never write an essay for you, but I will provide specific pointers, suggestions, and ideas so that you can become ‘unstuck’ and create great content.

How do I keep track of my application tasks and deadlines?

Each meeting is documented with detailed notes and ‘homework’ tasks so that students and parents can see exactly what needs to be done and by when. All tasks are assigned well in advance of application deadlines.

Do you help with financial aid?

Yes. I help students and parents understand exactly how financial aid works, including academic scholarships. Additionally, I provide assistance in navigating financial aid forms, guide parents through the financial aid appeal process if needed, assist with complicated family situations where parents might be separated or divorced, and help interpret the financial aid award packages from each college.

Do you limit the number of applications you review?

No. However, I will strongly suggest that applicants keep their list to a manageable number to avoid unnecessary stress during the process.

Do you communicate with my colleges and advocate for my application?

Communicating with colleges on your behalf is a job reserved for your school guidance counselor. My job is to maximize your admissions chances by making sure that your applications and essays are perfect.

Can you assist with athletic recruiting?

Yes. I am very familiar with the recruiting process and can provide specific advice on ways to increase recruiting chances. However, I am unable to communicate with college coaches on an athlete’s behalf, nor can I guarantee that an athlete will be recruited by a specific college.

Do you help with scholarship applications?

I do help students search for scholarships, but I assist with college applications only.

Do you help in making the final college choice?

Yes. I often meet with seniors to help them critically think through their final enrollment decision, including the finances. However, the ultimate choice is up to the student and/or family!
