He has visited over 150 colleges (either with student groups or independently) and helped hundreds of students achieve their college goals. In 2023, Erik returned to his home state of South Carolina, where he continues to enjoy helping students and parents navigate the college application process as an independent advisor.
Erik’s College Advising Philosophy and Core Beliefs
- College applications and essays should be and can be enjoyable!
- College applications and the application process should be part of your high school life, not all of it.
- Doing your best is what matters the most…not your GPA, ACT, or SAT.
- Moderation is Key: Constantly adding more advanced classes, extracurriculars, and summer activities can lead to burnout and ultimately harm admission chances.
- Good time management results in healthier minds, higher grades, stronger essays, and better applications.
- Portraying yourself authentically, honestly, and ethically in essays and applications is critically important.
- Relying on AI for college essays significantly harms acceptance chances.
- Toasters should be ranked; colleges should be visited.
- Where you attend college does not determine your value or your future happiness.
